Take my name of our mortgage?

me and my partner have just bought our house in feb this year, things arent going well, so im willing to go back to my mums and he can continue with the house, he doesnt know about me doing this but i know he would want to keep the house. can i take my name of the mortgage, our mortgage is with exact mortgages and through halifax.Thanks

  1. You can take your name off the house (don't do it) but you can't take your name off the mortgage.  People will tell you that your husband can apply to have the mortgage put in his name only.  That will never happen.  No mortgage would allow it.  They've got you on the hook for the next 30 years.

    I recommend that you get him out and you deal with it.  When you go home to mom, only bad things can happen to you with your own house.  Don't let that happen. Protect your investment.


  2. Not likely. Lenders prefer to keep as many people responsible for a loan as possible.

    He may be able to assume the loan on his own, or buy your share (if his income qualifies).

  3. the only way the lender will allow you to remove your name is to die or refinance.
