i was just wondering where the phrase "take one for the team" originated because the only context i've ever heard it used in has absolutly nothing to do with sport?

  1. I think it originates from baseball.  If you are hit by a pitch, you get to go to first base.  So even though it hurts, it is an advantage for your team.  You are taking one for the team.  It has evolved into the notion of making a sacrifice of any kind in order to give your "team" (of any kind) an advantage.

  2. It seems I take one for the team every time I go to work.

I mean that in the non sporting sense.

  3. It means if u r paining to and not to do something, ur taking one for the team

  4. from baseball! ^_^

  5. That's what she said.
