Question:

Taking Honors Chemistry?

I am taking that class this year, and one thing I noticed was that the teacher, really isn't that good. She gives us worksheets made by the same company that makes our textbooks. What can I do to keep my mind sharp this year, because I compete in the National Science Bowl. I need to know information, that I feel she isn't capable of supplying. If you can suggest a plan of action for me to learn chemistry as thouroughly as possible, please explain. I am not even sure if the textbooks we use are designed for higher classes. For all I know, it could be for middle school or something.

I though maybe I could go to the library, or something like that. Thanks, I really need your guys' opinion and help on this.

  1. First thing, read and understand the textbook, do exercises from the textbook, and so on.  You can try reading a more advanced book and doing exercises there.  You can also read books about chemistry applications.  I don't do chem, so I can't think of examples, but from bio there's books on human or plant evolution that don't teach concepts but rather show how those concepts apply in "the real world".

  2. sounds like youre an overachiever in high school. why dont you get a college level chemistry textbook and teach yourself, if you think youre such a genius. I self taught most everything in the first half of chemistry, but im not a genius, b/c i was in college, so i dont mean to sound like an *** wipe. the second half of chemistry was obviously much harder, but includes the same concepts from a year of a good HS chem course, but to a MUCH greater detail. over all if you can understand most of the concepts from a text like the one in the link below, youll ace HS chem, and learn a vast excess of information to own in this national science bowl you speak of.
