Question:

Taking a punch?

In train in boxing and i read book that says

"In general, you are at greatest risk for head or neck injury when you don't have sufficient neck musculature to overcome whatever it is that's imparting acceleration forces to your head".

Does this mean i should also train my trapezius muscles for hypertrophy as well as the actual neck muscles themselves, seeing as the trapezius attaches to the neck?

Thanks!

  1. Yes you must strengthen your neck muscles.!!!

  2. Yes, I boxed for a while and the neck muscles are just as important as the arms ,legs or abs and definitly work the traps

  3. the best way to avoid gettin injured is to not get hit!!

the best thing to do is train really hard and become a machine and kick the shi_t out of every body you meet.

  4. yes, definitately train traps, but it seems like you may want to focus your training on strength and flexibility more than hypertrophy

  5. My bro started boxing and was told about his neck muscles but i think he only trained his wrist muscles he lost so many fights

  6. A good rule of thumb with the body is that everything is connected....don't build just one area....you will take away or overcompensate other areas.... but keep the legs and back strong too....avoiding the punch is the best asset a boxer can have......but to answer your question, your neck, traps and upper back keep you from getting neck and head injuries

  7. No, it means you should avoid getting hit in the first place, whip out the jammie and flat blast your opponent.

  8. Yes, train your traps, along with the rest of your body.

  9. YOU will end up looking like a star trek cardassian and it will hardly benefit anyone in withstanding a heavy blow.
