Tax Breaks or benefits?

My Mother lives with me and she was just declared legally blind and i was wondering if anyone knows if there are any tax breaks for her or any benifits that she can get .

Her standard deduction will increase by $1,050.

$1050 if married, $1300 if single.

If your mom isn't already on social security, I'd first check with the social security administration about getting diability benefits for her.  Also, some insurance companies have a payment amount for loss of sight - check with whatever insurance company your mom has to see if they participate in that.  The other two answers on this page are correct - there is an additional tax "benefit" for being blind and/or over 65.  I'd also check with your state to inquire of any benefits your mom may be eligible for.
