Question:

Taxes on RV's in Panama?

Has anyone moved to Panama and taken an RV with them?

If so, what did you learn from the experience? ie, Dos & Don'ts? Were you required to pay RV taxes? If so, what percent or how much were you charged?

  1. Rivka is right.  Need we mention the road conditions while driving to and from Panama and/or the cost of shipping.  Then once the RV arrives, more difficulties begin.  Servicing, parking, maintenance, parts, etc. will be challenging in Panama.  You're already familiar with the weather conditions.

You may want to consider parking it in West Texas (where parking is inexpensive/ weather is dry) and keeping it as a vacation home.

  2. I've been here a year in Panama City and I`ve seen one motorhome though your not the first to ask, I don't know if the others followed through.

IMHO, I would discourage it.  In this tropical climate the paneling inside would be sure to wick moisture and warp.  The carpet would too and stink like mildew.  And then there is the security issue of using it to camp or travel.  Most of the crimes in Panama are crimes of opportunity and getting into an RV would be like opening a tin can in a country where the homes are built out of concrete with iron bars in the windows.

Also, there are no RV facilities to camp in, no RV service or parts centers.  And it's probably going to rust out in a couple of years.  I just bought a new chest freezer three months ago and it's already showing signs of rust.

But if you want me to ask someone here email and I'll ask around.
