I have just bought a new car. the road tax runs out at the end of this month. i want to notify the dvla regarding the change of ownership by sending the V5C document. my worries are that it takes 2 to 4 weeks for the new V5C to arrive by post to me. without that if i try to tax by car then the new tax disc goes to the previous owner's address. i bought this car from a trade seller. so how do i sort this out.

  1. If you take your part of the V5C (green bit) to a post office with your payment, insurance & MOT (if applicable), they will ask you to fill out a V10 form, which you can print out from http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Own... or available from your local post office.

  2. Go to the Post Office and tax it - tax discs don't come via the post.

  3. You keep hold of the green slip part of the log book which you can take to the Post office and tax the car

  4. If you go to a post office that issues tax disc they will be able to help you.
