Taye Taiwo speaks of
Chelsea desire
Marseille left-back Taye Taiwo has spoken of his hope to play for Premier League giants Chelsea, ahead of the French club’s visit to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.
Taiwo has been the subject of plenty of interest from various Premier League clubs in the past, but confessed his excitement at lining up at Stamford Bridge with the possibility of impressing
the Blues coaching staff enough to secure a potential move. The Nigerian admitted, “I’m so excited. I’ve been waiting so long for this opportunity to play at Stamford Bridge, so long for this opportunity to play against Chelsea and show them what I can do,
and maybe at the end of the season if Ashley Cole is leaving, then they’ll be thinking of who can replace him and hopefully they’ll think of me.”
Taiwo’s words will surely not have gone down with the Marseille hierarchy, as the player attempts to put himself in the shop window amidst a crunch game for the French champions. Having
lost their first Champions League group game at home to Spartak Moscow, Marseille now faces a difficult challenge in order to qualify for the next stage, with two meetings against Chelsea and a trip to Moscow amongst their remaining five games.
Despite Taiwo’s untimely outcry, he did go on to state the French club’s intentions going into to the game at Stamford Bridge. “We’re going to try to win, and to beat Chelsea,” he claimed.
Marseille will head into the game as the underdog. The French side could surely take a draw from the game, as they look to get a foothold in the group. Not many go to Stamford Bridge and
come away with anything , so Taiwo and company will have to be fully focused at the job at hand, and less distracted about gaining popularity with their opponents.
