  1. Here is what I did to teach my 7 year old terrier mix to bark when I used the command "tell me."

I started with several treats in hand. Showed the dog the treat and asked her if she wanted a treat. She sat (which is what I had taught her in the past). I then asked again, do you want a treat...then said tell me (in an excited voice). I kept saying tell me...the dog got excited and finally barked. She got the treat when she barked. I did this a few times in a row and then every time I asked the dog if she wanted a treat. It got to the point where the dog would look at me like she wanted something - I'd say tell me, she would bark and run to whatever it was she wanted (outside, a treat...whatever).

Don't give up you can do this. Good luck!

  2. Encouraging whatever activity that makes him bark in the first place. Reward the behavior.

  3. Ask him if he wants a cookie (a dog cookie, that is). If he wants it bad enough, he'll learn.

  4. Do you mean to bark on command? There are many different ways, but I taught my dog by association. Every single time she barked I gave her a key word. Now the causality has reversed and every time I say the word she barks.
