  1. Don't go head first into this and introduce yourself, be mysterious and make them interested in getting to know you. This way, they're mindset on finding out about you. I know this doesn't sound much like 3-year old behavior, but you've got to be submissive. For example, at the beginning of every broadcast, Barney doesn't say, "Hello, I'm Barney, and today I'm going to teach you about responsibility.", right? There is a theme song in every episode (warm-ups), plot (part of the dance), moral (reflection), song (free session). For the free session, you should let the kids give you ideas of what they want to learn, etc.

  2. A fun game for them to play at that age is for yall to all sit in a circle and each person gets to stand up when it is their turn and they get to do their favorite ballet move. The rest of the class has to guess what move the student did.

To get them to learn leaps, put an object on the floor and have them jump over it.

To get them to hold first position, have them each hold a beach ball and dance while holding it out in front of them. (this is first position)

To get them to listen to you, just make sure to do everything with them. Like don't say do a leap or a stretch and not do it with them. If you do it with them, then they will be more likely to do it because they will be like Mrs. ---- is doing it so its cool!!

Good luck and hope this helps!!!

  3. Don't be to strict on technique with these little kids.  I mean, do show them the proper technique, but if they don't have it perfect, don't stress, because they're three.  It's not like they'll remember five minutes later.  You should teach them tondus plies positions and other basic things that they'll need to learn for the future, but keep it light.  Maybe incorporate your lesson for that day into a game.  Take care and have fun!

  4. What helps little kids like 2, 3, 4, 5 year olds is a fun little game that relates to the subject. You could up a Simon Says game with ballet or have kids dance around while you try and tag them. Just remember, little kids just need to be occupied at have fun with it. Teach them Plié.

  5. To young wait tell they are 4 or 5

  6. make sure that they are actually really into ballet because i would know first hand that dancing is hard and takes a lot of attention.

    start with stretches and positions.

    1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th

both arms and legs.. do them separate 1st and then together.. but call our random numbers 1-5 and have them switch positions..

work on turns and a warmup routine.

thats what i started doing.. although i was 6 and not 3.

    but its worth a try!

  7. -mini plies in 1st position hands on hips

    -small jumps up (sautes...)

-tendus, or just tapping their feet. try to get them to point their toes

-have them jump over 3 objects going across the floor. it will teach them to leap.

    -chaines (if theyre ready)

  8. Good for you for realizing you must use your own unique style. Obviously they will not learn that much technique but you can instill the basics of discipline, respect, manners and the customs of greetings and endings of class. How very fun ( and exhausting ! ) for you.  Crucial is keeping their attention and obedience. Think how you wish them to address you. I suggest Miss_______.   Im sure you will do well which is why Im not suggesting-it has to come from you!
