  1. Each hamster has a different personality. Some hamsters are very friendly and active from the first day while some hamsters are too shy to come out of their cages when there is activity in the house and take some time to get used to their pet owners. Same with Scrappy, he is new to the environment and will take some time to get used to your scent and smell and get out of his shyness.

To make him more comfortable, do the following -

Start talking to him softly and hang around his cage enough for him to get used to your voice and smell. Also feed him some treats from your hand in his cage so he get used to seeing your hand.

Get a cup or something similar and place it into the hamster's cage. He should come to investigate and crawl inside. Take the hamster and cup out of the cage and let him walk out onto your hand. While you do this make sure you're sat down or sat close to the floor incase your hamster decides to jump. Let him walk from hand to hand. Be careful you don't grab or wrap your hands around your hamster until he is fully tame as this may scare him and he will jump out of your hand.

Once your hamster is more confident with you, you can start to pick up your hamster straight from it's cage. Just make sure your hamster is aware that you are there, if not you may suddenly scare the hamster and it may turn around and bite you.

Best way to hold hamsters is to make them climb into one hand and cupping the other hand softly over the body so that his head pokes out from the gap between your two hands. Remember, do not apply any pressure on his body, he will get scared.

  2. Yes, soon he will love you to hold him and for u to talk to him, and will hop up when ever you come in to a room!!

  3. Scrappy -cute name.

Well, don't force him too much. Maybe he just doesn't like to get handled too much. not every hamster wants to be picked up. Is he new? Just let him get used to you every day a little more. He might be shy with others, but he'll like you soon enough.

  4. Sure, he will. Just don't stress him out! Handle him with care and give treats when good.

  5. Aww it's natural, Scrappy is just getting familiar with his surroundings and his new friend. Spend time with him, talk to him, feed him and play with him. With time he will grow more affectionate towards you.

    Best of luck :)

  6. Introduce him to Richard Gere and let the hilarity ensue!

  7. He will. My hamster used to bite me and stuff (I was so afraid of him) but continued to hold and (well try to hold) and play with him and now he begs for attention and NEVER bites. he is so cute.

  8. ive had hamsters my whole life and raised some as well. if they dont bite and you can handle them you are doing good. affectionate? what do you want them to do, kiss you? and as for jumping when you come, not gonna happen. they sleep most days and roam the nights.he may walk towards you when you open his doors but he is just a lil hamster, dont expect greatness.but you can still love them and they will love you.just dont get your hopes up.
