Teenager eco warriors?

I'm 14 and im really big on global warming. All my class mates laugh and just joke about how they love their BMWs and flat screen TVs. When i get home i tell my dad and he gets all angry and shakes his head saying teenagers are selfish. But i want to tell him that it is his generation that has mucked us up, not teenagers - yet. I refuse to use cars, i recycle, do fundraisers for fairtrade, use organic, grow veg and lots of other stuff. I know im not really good but i do try. Why do adults always sigh when i try and tell them this stuff? If my parents really loved me they'd stop being greedy and try and save my planet.

  1. Difficult one, just try and lead by example and not worry about what others are saying.

Someone gave me an example once about100th monkey syndrome - im not fully aware of the facts but - basically there were 2 separate islands miles apart, on one island one monkey started to do something unusual (washing his food or something (sorry cant remember exactley) any way over a period of time the other monkeys on the island started to copy him.   Someone discovered that the monkeys on the other island  also over a period of time also started to do the same thing.

I know its hard when others cant see your point and dont support you but at least you know you are doing something and eventually you will find what you do doesnt go un noticed by someone else and may be many others will see what you are doing and follow suit.

  2. I think you would be better served by trying to act like a woman instead of a two year old. A real woman wants to do good for others and not try to make an a$$ of herself.

  4. Your dad's generation isn't the one that mucked things up. We're the ones that woke everyone UP to the problems! Maybe we see a lot of ourselves in you.

  5. Wow... and I have to say... Your a brainwashed little hippy.

    THE PLANET ISN'T DYING!!!!!!

The only thing that will be dying is our ECONOMY! because of people like you.

And deforestation which is one of the only ways we have harmed the Earth.... is a problem that is caused by the worlds POOR!

    So here...

The true science says that it is the Sun that is causing most of the recent warming that we have been hearing about.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is only accountable for less than 5% of greenhouse gases and we only make about 5% of that. (About 90-95% of Greenhouse Gases is Water Vapor)

The reason for increased CO2 is because as the oceans become heated, they cannot hold as much as they could if they were cooler, so the oceans release the excess into the atmosphere. From what I hear, the oceans can hold many times more energy and heat then the air. This meaning that the atmosphere should have very little effect on the oceans and that the sun or perhaps the Earth itself is heating up the surface since those are two of the only things that could heat our vast oceans.

Also, the Earth hasn’t warmed in nearly a decade but has actually fallen and it has fallen greatly within the past 2 years. Many scientists believe we are about to go through another little ice age.

Many scientists are skeptical about Anthropogenic Global Warming.

Al Gore had a chart in his movie "An Inconvenient Truth" that showed the similarities of Carbon Dioxide and temperature. The thing that he doesn't tell you is that there is a gap in which the temperature rises before the CO2 which should be the exact opposite if his theory is correct. Watch “The Great Global Warming Swindle”

Polar bears are NOT being endangered but actually the exact opposite.

That is my point of view on the issue and I strongly encourage you to watch "The Great Global Warming Swindle" (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=... all the way through even if you don't want to. It is a great source of information and if you want to know the truth, you need to see both sides of the story.

  6. Some people, many people in fact, don't care two bits about this world. and each generation seems to get more and more apathetic. People are valuing cell phones, media and internet games and are distancing themselves from life, nature, and peace more and more.

You can only keep doing what you're doing and try to meet other likeminded folks. Ignore the jerks that try to bring you down. You stand for an admirable cause, and while they're sucking down gas or sitting in front of the TV, you're trying to better the world

  7. Patience my pretty....one day people will get it. This fight has been going on a long time....It is about money and convenience not saving the planet.  When really crazy bad things start to happen people will scramble to fix things. Keep up the good fight!

  8. To be a young visionary is a great gift. People will give you a hard time because they are unable to see the things that are so obvious to you.

Don't be afraid to be a path finder and go where others are too weak or lazy to even consider! It is always better to be a leader than a follower. And the best way to lead is by example.

You are some what right about many Baby Boomers, there was a time in the 60s and 70s when we were truer to the planet than we may appear today. In the 1980s Ronald Reagan became President and shut down the environmental movement. Big money and big business got all the attention and so many of the Baby Boomers got brain washed and fell into the big money tread mill trap. When you sell your soul to a career and get in debt it is easy to forget your young roots and fly on auto pilot.

I think many Baby Boomers are starting to reawaken and feel very guilty about their negative contributions to the care of our planet over the past 20 or 30 years... this election season will determine if they are aware and conscience again or still oblivious and apathetic.

There is still a very strong brother and sisterhood of us old hippies, don't consider that an insult, as it is really a complement. We don't look like we used to, and many of us never used that many drugs (old stereo type!), but  we are still true to the cause and have been in battle for many many years to disarm, be honest, be organic, protect the planet and make love not war.

  9. "An Inconvienent Truth" should have been called " A Convienient Lie"  because it is full of misnomers and falsehoods, many of which have been exposed as such and retracted by the IPCC.  The polar bears dying has also been dubunked, by scientists and ecologists alike.  They are in fact a stable species, under no real threat other than hunting.  Man's contribution to CO2 levels is insignificant compared to that of nature.  In fact as all life on earth is carbon based, CO2 is a life giver, heat is also a life giver, lack of CO2 and cold are life takers.   There is real data on forests in Europe that have had bans on cutting, growing back at excellerated rates far beyond predicted, due to the increase in CO2 levels.  I'm glad that you grow your own veg and recycle, the UK is lacking in these areas and in N.America recycling programs have been in place for over 20 years, in fact they pay you for used goods, such as paper, bottles, oil, old appliances, plastics and tyres.  There are many, many other factors involved in climate change besides human intervention.  It is only the arrogant and the ignorant that think our limited intellect can change or stop nature.  This is evident in the tsunami disaster, the New Orleans flood, the floods here in the UK, and volcanic eruptions, these are isolated events and all relatively small when looked at from a global scale.  Could we stop those, hundreds of thousands dead, millions displaced, if we could stop nature why couldn't we stop those tragedies.  You are young and unworldly, and although your tenacity is commendable it is misplaced.  That may be why you get the sighs.  Educate yourself about the world beyond your shores.  A word of advice.  Do not believe everything you see on TV, especially if it comes from a politicians mouth, whose estate uses more energy in a month, than the average home does in a year, and who is making millions and millions of pounds scaremongering.

  10. There is no point of blaming anyone else because that isn't going to help save the planet, you should try be rational with the adults and not get so worked up or they wont take you seriously.

And if you want to make a real difference right to your head teacher about the ammount of electricity and paper schools waste.

  11. Good for you!

If this is how YOU want to live then great.  But other people don't, and you have to respect them and accept them fopr how they want to live.

Everyone has different thoughts and ideas.

Don't preach about how you live though as people will stay away.

The best way you can educate people is by offering advice when they ask for it!!

  12. I am also 14, i believe in global warming, i walk to school, recycle, grow plants, am a "veg head", and i have tried to switch to all CFLs. My parents don't care at all! My dad is one of those show feelings your a weakling so he taunts me because i passionate about something. So we shall try to save our planet one step at a time alone,
