My son got in trouble about 1 year ago.  He was with some friends who spray painted some mailboxes and they got caught.  We held our son guilty because he was there at the time it all happened.  He had to go apologize to each person that had damage and then clean up the mess.  To tell the truth, that bad situation turned out to be a BIG life teaching lesson and really taught my son a lot about hanging around the wrong people.  At the time I felt humilated and so upset that it all happened and now I look at it and say that my son is a better person now because of that.    It is so important that children learn from their mistakes.
