Question:

Telling someone their child needs deodorant?

So, I nanny for a family, ironically of two doctors. Their little girl just turned 11 and has been in bad need of deodorant for quite some time. They probably don't notice much because I am the one who picks her and her brother up from all their activities... she stinks up the car when she gets in! I don't want to say anything to her, because it might hurt her feelings. But can I say something to her mom/dad? If so, how?

Thanks!

Weird question I know...

  1. If she is 11 she could likely be getting closer to puberty so this would be normal.  Some children get it worse then others because their genetics are different.

I would approach the subject just from a concern stand point.  Concern for her health...and because if you notice it her friends probably notice it and well that could just be social suicide.

  2. I would tell them the truth.  I would probably word it like this...

I've noticed lately that as your daughter has approached her teens, she's starting to have a distinct odor after playing sports and I think that she could benefit from deodorant.

If they're both doctors, they know that the human body gets more smelly once you hit puberty.  And I agree, it would be better to say it to them than to her directly.

  3. just sit down and talk with them. it might be several different reasons. she may already use it. but maybe not. my mother growing up would paack on tons of it and still have an order she had a chemical inbalance that caused the bo. they are docs and trust you with thie children if you see something that can be fixed i am sure they belive you are able enough to bring the problem up to them.

  4. buy it yourself and let the parents know why

  5. 11 year olds dont need deodorant. Some nanny you are.

  6. Just say it. NOthing to be embarrassed about for anyone involved.
