Telnet Problem?

I want to be able to telnet into my computer. I already set up port forwarding on my router but I still can't telnet my computer's IP and localhost. Do I need a telnet server running on my computer?

Yes.

Also remember that telnet is not a secured remote access protocol. SSH [1] is, but it's initially meant for commandline access in Unix-like environments. Alternatively, you could tunnel telnet over SSH, or try to tunnel VNC (desktop sharing protocol) over SSH [2].

I'm going to assume that you want to remotely control your computer over the internet. You can do it with telnet, but that is the really hard way to get there.
