Question:

Tennis racket question?

ok so i have a racket and for some reason, usually after i play, there are like dirt-like marks on the throat of my racket. i have no idea as to how they got there since they have no way of touching the ground. They are almost streakish marks. very hard to remove unless with a relatively sharp object.

I dont abuse my racket at all either. i would like to know exactly what and how they got there or a way to clean them off.

and one more question:

is using three overgrips on a racket bad? the place i got it from only had the specific size so i bought it and my hand fits the handle after three grips.

thx

  1. racquets do NOT sweat. probably it's your own sweat from your left hand while supporting the racquet. sweats can be easily cleaned up by any cleaning material available. wipe the stain with some body soap or shampoo using a gentle cloth and wash with wet cloth. if the stain won't go then find some stronger stain removal agents. if you use some sharp object it will nick the paint, unless you wish to re-paint the frame then i'd suggest not to use sharp object to remove the stain.

it is not bad but if possible, find the same racquet with one bigger grip size (if you're using the #2 - 4 1/4", then find #3 - 4 3/8") then place a layer of overgrip over the base grip. if such racquet is not available then just use three overgrips as long as it's comfortable to your preferences.

    hope it helps :)

  2. Okay.  Not sure what type of racquet you have, but those marks may be the racquet "sweating".  I don't know exactly what that comes from, but I know that graphite-based frames produce those streaks.  Mine always did.  Nothing wrong, though - it won't cause any issues and there isn't anything to be done about it.

Using 3 overgrips isn't necessarily bad.  As long as it's comfortable, you're good to go.  You can take it to a tennis pro-shop and have them do a grip build-up for you, so you won't have to keep wrapping that many...
