Tennis shoes on a phone wire?

I have a question...for as long as I can remember I see a pair of tennis shoes hanging from a telephone wire. Is that supposed to mean something? If so, please tell me. I appreciate the help

No....its just a bunch of kids thought it would be funny to throw their shoes on the telephone wire....i dont understand it

It used to mean you could find a dealer underneath or nearby. But the cops caught on fast and now it means nothing.

I've heard that in gang culture it means that someone has died/been killed, and they throw that person's shoes up over the phone wire in memorium.

Yeah, it means some poor sap will have to buy a new pair of shoes.  When I was a kid we used to do it for two reasons; either we were being mean to some other kid by throwing them up there and getting them caught (unfortunately, that got the other kid's parents involved and the joke was on us when our parents had to buy the kid a new pair of shoes), or we were just being stupid and doing it with our own shoes just to see if they would get caught.  I read an article a while back about how a child's brain doesn't fully develop until they are 20 or so, I guess that tends to prove that theory.  Yeah, but they're not like gang symbols or anything like that.
