a 10 kg box is being supported on top with a tension force that has an angle of 30 degrees. also, the box is being supported by a metal rod on its side which likewise gives it support.

question is, how do you solve for the tension being given by the force on top and the one on the side? thanks.

  1. The tension force has two parts, the horizontal and the vertical. Since the metal rod supports only vertical force and according to equilibrium in horizontal axis we conclude that tension must be zero so that the metal rod supports all of the boxes weight.
