Tesco in West Malaysia?

As you may or may not know Tesco is a British company with thousand of stores across the UK and now they are spreading their wings across the world.

What I was wondering about is what kind of food they sell in the West Malaysian outlets.

Is it similar to the UK with lots of 'ready meals' (Just pop them in the microwave oven for a few minutes) or is it only fresh food they sell?

  1. Tesco in malaysia are different than the standard u will find in the UK. Tesco here understandbly are catered for the locals. Microwaveable food are limited to pizzas and lasagna. The canned food on the other hand are local brands. Tesco aims to sell products at competitive prices and to supply more local product than imported ones. Thats what i read in the newspaper column when they first introduced here.

They do have prepack food, salad, sandwiches, breads etc. but the quality is different of those in the UK. The first and the last time i check, the vegetable section sucks, all the vegetables look like a week old. I never go back there ever again.

  2. they sell all except bombs and guns

  3. I'm from Malaysia and have been to Tesco for several time. To answer your question...yes, Tesco in West Malaysia did sell both 'ready meals' and also fresh food. The choice is in yours, just pick any food that you like and the price is so affordable there :)

  4. We lived in Malaysia for a year and most of the people there do not have microwaves. My driver always took me to the fresh markets for chicken, beef and then to the fresh fruit and vegetables. They have a very healthy diet. Even in the grocery store I never saw a pop it in the microwave.

Cold Storage is another upper class hyper market, which sells a lot of those ready made thingy and the products sold are very similar to what you get in UK and US...once i was craving for blueberry and butterscotch waffles and drove around looking for it..and wallah..i got it at Cold Storage..thank god! mmmm..yummy..

  11. Tesco in malaysia is sell hypermarket stuff similar to many country. they also sell tesco in house brand mainly in food related. they are planning to have 40 outlets in malaysia within 5 years time.

by the way the ready meal for microwave is just getting popular now BUT most people in malaysia still prefer fresh food.
