can a midwife do a check to see if your losing amniotic fluid? ive heard you can use ph sticks, i dont know if im leaking slightly, baby seems to be showing more of an outline in my belly, im 38 weeks

  1. yes, there are 3 tests.  1 is pH test strip which will turn green or blue if amniotic fluid is detected.  2 is pooling, which is like a puddle of fluid in your v****a. 3rd is ferning, they take a sample of fluid and put it on a microscope slide and see if it looks a fern.... usually you need 2 of 3 for a positive diagnosis.  I would give the midwife a call so she can give you more directions, since your 38 weeks your safe, but if you water did break and labor dosen't start on its own within 12 hours you may need an induction to prevent an infection.


  2. yes they use a strip and if it is amniotic the strip turns blue...call your midwife and ask her to come and check!  Good Luck!!

Yes i just had it done last thursday......they take a swab and do something like a papsmear then they put the swab on this piece of yellow paper and if it turns blue then its from amniotic fluid. Go have it checked out if you think your leaking. it ended up just being extra mucus for me but they were glad i had it checked out just in case
