Question:

Testing trailer brakes?

So i need to test my trailer brakes (electric) and I've been advised to apply 12 volts to the wire and test them. Should I just take a wire from a car battery or something and plug it in? And will i hear the brakes activate or do i need to spin the tires (jacked up) and apply the 12 volts?

  1. Should test them by attaching to a towing vehicle and applying them. The towing vehicle Willl have a trailer brake controller which allows you to adjust the force applied by the trailer brakes. Too much and it wil skid around, too little and your towing vehicle will hav e much harder time stopping.
