The 2008-2009 NHL Winter Classic...?

Question

Comcast Sports Chicago reported last night that, in fact, it'll be the Chicago Blackhawks facing off against the Detroit Red Wings at Wrigley Field next January, "with an official announcement perhaps coming this week."

^Thoughts? Anyone believe this rumor? Would you want this happen? Are these the right teams and field?

I think its going to be the Rangers at Yankee Stadium before Chicago.  They have to hurry on that one before it gets torn down.

Good matchup bad location.  Wrigley sucks for baseball.  The game should be moved to soldier stadium or the White Sox ballpark.

i never get those they say it is suppose to be classic right. Well i don't  think so. why you may ask well its just not one of those huge rivalries from back then till now. why don't they make a Habs with Leafs it be exciting to see these original teams be in a classic moment like the out door games.

I think that the winter classic should always be a rematch of the previous year stanly cup finals.

I like the match-up. Soldier Field would be better place to have it.

Also... I know not everone is a Hawks fan and I respect that but geez... reading a few people's comments. Folks you act as if the Hawks are some expansion team in a city who has never seen a hockey skate before. Sure the playoffs have been a "no go" for last ten seasons but it had little to do with players themselves. Also, prior to that the Hawks the second most consecutive seasons with playoff apperances (28), have had some the leagues best talent in franchise history, oh yeah and ummm... an Original 6. cut 'em some slack. Besides they are going to be very good and fun to watch over the next few seasons. You can tell there are lots of people who either weren't old enough to remember a mere ten years ago or that just are new fans to the game. I remember in the old stadium hocky fans... not Hawks fans only, traveled to Chicago to come to the old stadium to see a game just so they can say they did. Thats how storied the franchise and the Chicago Stadium were. In the first Iraq war we pretty much showed other fans in other cities how pathetic it was to have a fan-o-meter...lol

I believe it is just a Rumor.. It would be a really good game but the New York Rangers have a Rumor on the site below stating that ESPN rumored they might play the Winter Classic '08-'09 at Yankee Stadium..

I think the game should be between Detroit and San Jose!

I don't care where they play it. The Hawks are turning things around. It'll be fun to see.

if i had to pick, i would want Penguins vs. Flyers in Beaver Stadium (Penn State)

it would be great because the fans would come from both sides of the state

I like the teams they picked.  I think in 09-10 it will be at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.  Finally MN will have a large outdoor stadium for such an event.  I hope when the Wild host it they bring in a Canadian team like Toronto or Montreal.

Yes the past (the Red Wings) verse the future (the Blackhawks) at one on the Greatest cities of the world.  It is perfect.

I don't think it should be those 2 teams when Montreal is having their 100 year anniversary next year. It should be Montreal and Toronto in Montreal.
