The Big Bang?

They say the big bang happens repeatedly, like in a cycle. If so, doesn't that then mean that this time, the present day, has existed before, and will exist again in the future?

d**n there are so many things i want to know but will probably never find out...

  1. "There was no big bang, only a big hand job."

    -George Carlin

  2. they USED to say that. the oscillation theory has been pretty much abandoned since the discovery of dark energy.

it now seems that the universe doesnt have enough matter to contract again. and further complicating things it seems that the universe isnt slowing down as it should be, but its actually speeding up its expansion. which leads pretty much every astronomer to believe that the universe is not oscillating, and this is the first and last universe (unless there are separate, independent ones).

  3. Time is regarded by most to be a constant.  Therefore if the universe collapses and "Big Bangs" reoccur then they do so in a linear progression and not restarting time every time so that the same day exists more than once.  If time is not a constant than I guess I would be possible but do not know if the big bang as it where would actually affect time.

  4. I think that if it does happen over and over again then people like us will exsist exsactly like us and will be doing the exsact thing were doing now in there time. Because everything would be the exsact same and the people would think and do the same things we do because they would act the same way. I bet somebody will type this answer in like I did with same wording in like 50 billion years or so.

  5. I don't know who "they" are.  Certainly not most scientists studying the subject.  And even if the Universe ends in a big crunch and starts over again (this seems increasingly unlikely) there is every reason to think that the new cycle would be completely different in detail from the one before.

  6. It may possibly happen.  But wanting to know so many things (and knowing that you'll never live long enough to learn them all) is something that every member of the Scientific Community has to deal with every day.  Worse still, it seems that every answer we find raises about a dozen more questions ☺

  7. That was at one point a theory that "big bangs" happen in cycles, but now scientists realize that this is probably not the case. Even if it was the case, everything as you know it would be completely different. That means different elements, and everything. Maybe there wouldn't even be stars or galaxies.

I feel your pain brother, I wish I could know some stuff I may never figure out.
