This is a question on my study guide that I cant figure out..

Why are Danforth, Hathorne, and the other authorities so resistant to believing the claim that Abigail and the other girls are lying?

  1. Because not only is their judgment in question, but this is also tied to a larger metaphor of being satisfied with the way things are and not looking for the truth.
