Have the A's given up on the year.

I am asking this due to the trades of Blanton and Harden and the teams current drop to a 500 record and there 2-8 record in there last 10 games,

If my memory surves it wasnt long ago they were about 4 back.

So Have the A's given up and whats your out look an what I believe is another disappointing season

  1. Im an A's fan and watch all the games, I dont no if they gave up but they cannot buy a win right now and dont see them winning many on the roadtrip comming up. The Royals can complete the sweep tonite(When the last time the Royals swept Someone.haha) next they go to Boston and Then Toronto.  I no they are rebuilding but the way billy beane does stuff they never gona win a Championship cause once these guys get good like Sweeny, Gonzales, and Gallagher, he wont want to pay them the money to keep them so he willl trade them to just like haren, harden, hudson, Tejada, Giambi ect.  But then the one guy he chooses to resign for some big money is Chavez and Crosby who cant even stay healthy. They need to keept this core of good young talent they have right now for years to come. They were right in it the whole first half and they were getting ride of all the good players so i guess in a way the personel game up but the players are still trying.

  2. 6 injuries... maybe next year, too late to catch up

  3. They've had a ton of star pitchers (Mulder, Haren, Blanton, Harden, Zito) and let them all go. Imagine if they still had 4 of those 5 guys (Mulder was traded for Haren)... they'd have a great staff.

  4. sports illustrated says the blanton trade was a sign of surrender when it really wasn't. the team is just in a really big slump. and actually dallas braden who replaced blanton in the rotation is better then blanton

  5. typical billy beane.

i don't critize the offseason moves of haren and swisher because coming into this season they weren't even supposed to be anywhere near 500, but being 4 games back prior to the all-star break and trading away their ace, one of baseball's best pitchers, while being 4 games back. that's flat out stupid.

what ever happened to building a team around your stars.

the A's would've gotten equal or similar value if they waited into the offseason to trade harden so why not keep him and make a push.

their young outfielder carlos gonzalez will be their star for 2 or 3 years, but I bet you he'll be traded eventuallly.

  6. Billy Beane made some of the worst moves ever. He traded Haren in the off season and now he trades Harden and Blanton when they are in contention in the division. He is trying to build a future team, but he should also keep some of his young stars. Ever since he traded Harden and Blanton, the A's have stunk. They will have a good team in the next few years though.

  7. A's are in rebuilding mode

    they gave the white flag

they will be back in the race in '10

they will have an awesome team

  8. well the A's will have really given up if they trade away huston street of duchsherer. the A's went from being elite (2006) to being just outright average in a matter of a year.

  9. It really seems like some of the players have given up, like they're not trying. They were doing great for a while. Then, it seems like the trades are bringing them down. I know that they're thinking about trading Street which to me is a good idea, he's blown two really important games, it seemed like after he blew one game, they fell apart. I think they need Harden back to. I hope they keep Duchscherer becuase he's a really great pitcher and they need him. Some of their pitching ace's are giving up a lot of runs, which makes it hard for the A's to catch up offense wise. Most of their really good offense is on DL, I don't think they can catch up, but two players (Mike Sweeney and Frank Thomas) are coming back next week which is part of their main offense. I was very dissapointed, but I still watch all the games, go to games, cheer them on, and most importantly believe in them. If we don't believe in them, no one else will. That's what a true fan would do even if they were in last place.
