Question:

The Olympic Medal Table Debate!?

There has been a lot of people saying that the medals should be decided by GDP or by population per medal. Maybe they should have divisions? etc... The big nations of China, America, India, Indonesia, Russia and other countries who have more than a 100 million have their own group. Countries with 20-80 million people like Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Ukraine and Spain all compete. And the less populated nations in a third divsion. And to make it in true Olympic style the top 3 countries would all get medals!

  1. Team sizes count more in the final result than population.

China has 1.32 billion people - Team size - 639

    America 301 million people - Team size - 596

Great Britain has 60 million people - Team size - 313

    Australia has 20million people - Team size - 482

India has 1.12 billion people - Team size - 56

  2. I am undecided on this. On one hand I could see where they are comming from. Some countries only have a few athlethes in some sports. This would give them a better chance. On the other hand I have seen some of these people still win gold in their sports and that is what makes this the olympics :)

  3. I, too, see where this is coming from, but I don't think it would be as exciting for less countries to be competing against each other. Some smaller countries only focus on a few sports to win medals in, or other sports aren't as popular there so not as many people play it (and thusly there are less olympic-material athletes) I just think that it would make the Olympics less competitive.
