The Pittsburgh Pirates stink?

They do have a lot of young talent, but there still at the least a few years from a winning season. Plus they may trade Jason Bay and even Nate McClouth today so it may be longer.

The Indians are having an awful season but I'd take my team with poor relief pitching and no closer over Pittsburgh, for sure. They tried to rob us of our farm system for Bay and I am glad Shappy did not go for it. I do thank the Bucs for taking J-Mike, though.

They were good in the late 70s, but haven't been good since then. YES, they stink.

There are plenty of reasons to like the Pirates.  

A fantastic ballpark.  There is nothing like walking over the Clemente Bridge and watching a night game as the sunset falls against the city skyline.

Nice uniforms.  Ok don't laugh.  Those uniforms, and especially the red jerseys, make the merchandise very attractive.

A couple of good young players.  Unfortunately it seems they will have one less soon when Bay leaves.

However, most people in Pittsburgh will tell you that it's the ownership and management that stinks.  There's no long-term effort to win or improve.  They give away prospects and young players for nothing.  They won't spend the money.  The product on the field is not good and it's a shame for that town.

When the best thing on the field is a pierogie race, you've got problems!

I don't live there but I travel there frequently.

I have to agree with you.  I think they gave up on their season far too early by trading Nady and Marte.

As a Reds fan I shouldn't be talking but yes I think the Pirates suck. I hope that the pirates can work out a deal to get rid of Jason Bay and bring some more talent to a city that needs some. Oh well, you guys have the Steelers who are good every year and this year the Bengals will beat 'em. Plus you guys have the Phillies who are fun to watch.Nothin to complain about.

They should just offically contract and put the Pirates in the minors... They trade away young up and coming players for prospects, until a few of them start to show some major league ability (at about 28-30 years of age) then trade them for more prospects.... I don't think their ownership can be trusted with prospects... MLB needs to restrict their ability to trade for prospects. . . If it wants any more fans in Pittsburgh.
