Question:

The Sims 2 Custom Content; PC?

I downloaded a lot of content from parsimonious.org for The Sims 2, for my PC.

then after I installed it and went to go play The Sims 2, it got to the loading screen (just before the neighborhoods pop up on the screen), and then it crashed. A message popped up: "The Sims 2 has stopped working." What could have happened to my game to make it crash?

I was thinking that if I deleted all of the custom content in my Downloads folder (again!) and started over maybe it would work?

This has also happened with the EP, Bon Voyage. The game still ran, but all of my custom content was deleted. The only thing I could possibly do is to uninstall the game. But the thing is, I don't feel like uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

Is there any way I could fix this problem?

  1. DH answer is good listen to her make sure you didn't download a virus there was a virus in one of the downloads i downloaded and it crashed everytime i played

  2. well this happenned to me but the problem is your computer,

NOT THE GAME. so a good idea would be to install it to a different computer. have fun!(:

  3. Try removing your Downloads folder.  It's possible that there's an issue with one of the download files.  I usually only install a few at a time, then test them out in the game.  This way, if it crashes, I know which ones were the latest and therefore I can just delete those in question.

I've had the issue of all of my custom content, as well as my saved games, disappearing from my game.  Really freaked me out!  I think I ended up shutting the game down two or three times (after restarting), before everything was back to normal.  I never had to uninstall-reinstall thankfully.

  4. Yes do what DH says. Or just remove all your Parsimonious downloads and see if the game works.

Just because a download crashes your game doesn't mean it contains a virus. It could have a very high poly count, be incompatible with your game, or simply conflict with some other piece of custom content in your game.

I downloaded a bed today from modthesims2 that crashed my game. It was apparently compatible with my EPs, it was low-poly and it was by a well-known creator. But it still crashed my game. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to why things crash your game. It's just par for the course.

  5. In addition to what DH said, try deleting the Groups.cache file located in My Documents > EA Games > The Sims 2. It won't hurt the game and might help. The file will regenerate the next time you play, but the content will be different.

Jacob, where did you get a download with a virus? I want to know, so I can avoid that website. They obviously don't moderate their downloads.
