How good is the Verve? Which of their albums is best? What exactly is shoegazing? Is their new album any good? Help me, my computer glitched up, and now all my punctuation ends in question marks? Just kidding about that last one. Any insight would be nice. Thanks!

  1. I didn't read your question properly, and i can't be bothered to answer all of them =] sorry

Well i think Bitter Sweet Symphony is their best song.

  2. I really love LOve Is Noise, but that's the only song of their that I've heard so far...

  3. I'm not so keen on The Verve's later stuff- their new 2008 album is called Forth if you're still interested. I like their first album most, which is called Urban Hymns and has their most famous (and best, in my opinion) song Bittersweet Symphony which is actually built around the orchestral version of The Last Time by the Rolling Stones, so Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are mentioned in the writing credits.

I heard on the TV that Urban Hymns has sold a total of 2.5 million in the UK and 7 million worldwide.

Richard Ashcroft (the lead singer) also indulged in a little solo career for a while after the band split up, and during that time, claimed that he could relate to Jesus (I don't know what he meant by that). Then The Verve reunited this year for that new album, which is floating around the UK top ten at the moment.

The term 'shoe gazing' started up during the 90s Brit pop decade and is still used today to describe bands who don't put on much of a 'physical' performance and literally just stare at their shoes while playing guitar. This is either because they're a little shy or as a fashion statement.
