Jacqueline and Jamie are the same female name because both come from James. Jacqueline is a french name which is a feminine form of Jacques. Jacques is the french form of James/Jacob.

And Jamie is a feminine form of James. For this reason, these 2 female names (and their different spellings) are related.

Do you that? Give me your opinion, please!

You could say that.

But you could also say that Giovanna is a form of Josephine, so Vanna could be a natural nickname of Josephine.

I'm not sure if it makes sense to mix different languages' versions of the same name and try to get a nickname out of it.

There's a huge gulf between names being related and being the same.

This is especially true with names that have long histories of use.  Any choice that's been in use for more than a millennium is going to have infinite variants in different languages and through different historical periods.

So yes, I always find it a little odd when parents have both an Elizabeth and an Isabel; a James and a Jacob; a Carrie and a Charles; Anna and Grace.  But does it cause the kids any grief on a daily basis?  I doubt it.  To most, if the names don't *sound* similar, they're not.

In fact, I think it is far worse to give children names that sound alike, even if the meanings are unrelated.  I grew up with twins called Stacey and Tracey, and sometimes hear of twins with names like Kayley and Hayley today.  Or I knew a family where all the girls' names started with Jo - Jodi, Joanne, Jolene.

Plenty of names - for example, Rosalind and Rosalie - are not related from an etymological perspective, but sound too similar to be used by siblings.  On the other hand, Diego and Giacomo are so far apart that they could be used by brothers - even though, by your logic, they're the same name.
