The blair witch legend

okay i am probably really really clueless about this because i never even seen the movie but im starting to watch it right now. what is the legend? why were they doing this video taping and everything?

The movie gave the information the Blair Witch had haunted the area for a long time and was feared because she would kill the children from time to time. The film crew was supposed to prove or disprove the myth.

The "legend" was just a VERY clever and successful marketing ploy they put out before the movie came out (which sucked by the way).  There is no Blair Witch Legend.

There is no legend. It is a completely made up story. The whole thing is just a script. They just made up some stuff and filmed it as though it were true. It isn't based on any legend.

SIDE NOTE: I thought it was funny how Heather Donahue was giving an interview about a year after the Blair Witch Project had come out in theaters. In it she stated how she found out in a bad way how many people thought the whole thing was true. She mentioned how some people who had watched the film would recognize her on the streets, then look shocked then angry and scream at her "Hey, you're supposed to be dead", then chase her down like they were going to kill her for not really being dead. She said that scared her more than any part of filming the movie had.
