Its just about saying what will win votes. Lets have immigration on the basis of skills offered to the country not knowing some silly history rubbish, being able to sing the national anthem or the like. If I could get a decent plasterer today I wouldn't care if he/she could speak English, knew who the last 5 priministers were or anything like that. If the country were to get too full then lets throw out the ASBO army, the liberal do gooders that want to abolish prison and the politicians that do nothing useful (all of them).

Have to agree with you "she will have to start with finding most of them first ", you will find most british people have moved to Spain, USA and Australia.

I cant really see how they can asses their britishness, when a lot of them can't string two words together in english. The only thing they can say in english is "give me a free house and medical care" or "take me to the nearest dss office"

I sat my test a couple of years ago.  We were provided with a big book on how to become British.

It was a total joke. They tell you that if you go into a pub and knock over someone's beer, you must apologise and buy them a new drink.  No mention of a pot of tea anywhere.

Oh well, no wonder it's taken over a year for them to assess my application.  I'm obviously too foreign to be British.

They already have to, I took an Egyptian friend of mine to the centre in Manchester last year.

You need this for an extended visa let alone for a passport. whilst I was there, I asked a couple of the staff (British) if they had tried to do the test, well yes they had, and like me failed it first time!

My friend passed first time.
