  1. A squishy social science concept by the anthropologist Marget Stockett which posits that the Mayans had a third gender. Gender being a social science construct that makes no sense to a scientist. A third gender would imply a trichotomy; typical of social science confusion. The " straw man " position of social science is that science only recognizes two biological sexes. In reality, science is continuous in it's appreciation of a normal distribution of sexual identification. It only claims genitalia as of close type. Male, female and hermaphrodite, plus some variation here.

As usual, social science attacks a " straw man " position of it's own making. If the Mayans had any thing such as " a third gender ", it would have fit into some type of transsexual category already recognized.
