How does the subconscious mind know how to keep your heart pumping and our internal system going without us thinking about anything?

The subconscious mind doesn't live in our brain. It resides in every cell of our body and each cell knows what it requires to continue to function. Our cells communicate with the other cells through nerves, via electrical and chemical messengers. Whilst we are contemplating things, our body and all its cells are actually "doing" what they need to do to keep active and alive.
