Thinking about buying a pond heater

has any body used a kw Prof water heater for koi pond are they any good

  1. Yes I have used them.  Honestly you don't need one for any reason.  Koi and goldies aren't like other fish.  They can tolorate high temperatures like the noon day sun into the cooler evening temperatures without a problem.

    Winter time is a good time for the fish to regenerate.  They hybernate at 50 degree temps (water temps)  That is not to say that having a heater isn't a bad thing.  What I have found is some heaters will actually freeze in the ice.  This make you then chip at the ice to remove it.  This chipping at the ice can kill your fish.  Also, your fish don't need to be fed in the winter.  If the power should go out and the pond freezes over the fish will start to hybernate.  If they do this with foods still in their intestines this could kill them.

    I found it is more of a problem than it is worth, really.
