  1. A Clio is a good buy as a used car - there are millions around, so they're cheap. They do suffer from niggles, but very few serious or expensive faults.

In response to your second reply, 1993 isn't exactly ancient! That's about the age of car I'd look at as a first one.

  2. Don't.  i own a renault clio 2004, not even 5 years old but this car has been giving lots of problems regularly, most especially problems with regards to electronics...central lock, power window switch, speedo cutting out, RAID malfunctioning, engine suddenly dying while you're driving at high speeds, etc.

if you do NOT want to have lots of headaches later on, DON'T buy a clio, better yet don't buy a renault.  you'll have much better chances with a japanese, even a korean, car.

  3. I used to have a renault clio. It was from 1993 though!  I imagine the one you're learning in is probably a newer model.  They're ok as a first car, however like all French cars, they can have their problems, and can be expensive to fix if something goes wrong. Some RC's did have a problem with the bonnet clips not being adequate, and flipping up whilst driving! I know how tempting it is to buy a car like the one you learnt in, however to be honest I would recommend going for something Japanese instead - like maybe a Mitsubishi - much more reliable and cheaper on parts etc.  It's not as scary it might seem driving a completely different car.  You get used to it more quickly than you think.
