It's a Trek 7.2 fx.I'm hoping to use it for a triathlon.

  1. Hello,

They bike you chose above is more for simple commuting in a comfortable position. This bike is not meant for speed or racing. A triathlon bike(depending if you are planning on going competitive or not) will usually have with very aggressive geometry. Meaning, you are hunched over (flat back), with arms in an aero tucked position to reduce wind resistance = less comfort (the price you pay for speed). It may run 700 cc wheels or even smaller wheels 650cc.

From the same company,  here is a lower end tri-bike (http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/200... and one that is higher end (http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/200... Notice the angle of the top tube in comparison to you the 7.2 fx (it slopes in the opposite direction).

If you are  just participating in a beginner triathlon or don't plan to get serious into this sport, I suggest you just borrow a friends bike (road bike). You could also just use your regular old bike in the garage. However, I would not recommend purchasing the 7.2fx for a triathlon.

    Best regards,

    A.

  2. this bike is generally ok for commuting and trying to get fit. however it is not entirely best suited for triathlon racing. it won't get you up to speeds as fast as what a road bike would allow you to do and riding up hills in a race would be alot slower apposed to a road racing bike.

at the moment to get yourself an endurance base it would be better for you to start on this bike to build your fitness and then get yourself a road bike which will seem somewhat easier yet alot faster and better suited to tri-athlon racing.

  3. A great starter bike for someone who is looking to do anything from tooling around town to getting a serious workout.
