Question:

Threading the bernina 1300DC serger

I've been away from my serger for some months and to be honest, I didn't use it much before surgery took me away from sewing. Now... I have forgotten everything I knew about threading the serger. I follow the directions but... the thread(s) keep breaking before I even get started. I believe the problem is with the lower looper thread. The manual diagram is sooo small that I just can't be sure I'm doing it correctly. Something is going wrong between steps 8 (press the auto threader lever (OK)), 9 (thread the guide (OK) and the **** on the threader (I think I did this right), 10 (release auto threader lever (OK)), and 11 (thread lower looper eye and place thread under the presser foot). There's another thingy with an eye that looks like the auto thread looper but it comes in front of the thread guide (step 9). I can't identify what it is from the manual. Do I thread it? When I'm done threading (step 11) do I put the thread over the upper looper or under it? The picture seems to show it goes over but... since the threads keep knotting/breaking, I just don't know where to look. For all I know, the lower looper may not be the problem in threading but the other instructions seem more straightforward and easier to follow and since the lower looper thread is the one most likely to break, I figure that's where the problem is. Could you direct me to a clearer diagram?
