  1. C. The traditions of my people are orally based... a written form of the Cree language did not exist until the mid 1800's. A fellow by the name of James Evans, a missionary/church fellow based in Norway House, MB., 'translated' Cree into syllabic form. Unfortunately, cultures with rich oral traditions are also at greater risk of assimilation than those with written language. The majority of the community I live in still speaks Cree, but it is being lost. Few actually use syllabics.

    This was too easy.  Besides communicating their beliefs and values, they've  maintained their early histories and language.

    Think of the early Native Americans,  the early Hebrews, the early Norse sagas.
