Ticket leg?

My professor has given the students instructions on how to do a project, but did not thoroughly explain everything. I am quite confused on what he meant by ticket leg. What is it?

When you make stops or change planes during a trip, each flight is referred to as a "leg" of the trip.  Ex.  New York to Atlanta and Atlanta to Jacksonville would be a trip with two "legs".
