Tiger Woods to play in Malaysia
Malaysia will be gripped with golfing fever this October. The news from Tiger Woods is that he will be featuring in Malaysia to play the CIMB Classic.
This is great news for the Malaysian fans as they will get to see one of the finest golfers of the world live and they would have the chance to get up close and personnel with him.
The tournaments prize money has been raised to $7 million. Tiger is now the second best player of the world. It has been a few tough years for Tiger Woods with scandals and divorce. However, the former world number one is back to his best and will contest
in Malaysia.
The tournament is hosted by the Asian Tour and it features 30 players from the PGA Tour. The event will be held between October 25-28 at the Mines Resort and Golf Club outside the capital Kuala Lumpur.
The interesting thing is that from next year, this will be an official PGA Tour money event, having FedEx points as well.
"The early confirmations will give this year's event great early momentum. Ben and Bo have developed a good local following and Tiger will be a huge draw especially given his ASEAN roots," Nazir Razak, CEO of banking group CIMB, said in a statement released
by the Asian Tour.
Tiger last played in the region back in 1999, when he emerged victorious at the world golf club. He is happy about playing in Malaysia. He feels that it would be a nice experience playing there after a long time.
"I have not been back to Malaysia since '99, so that is one reason I want to go back," Woods was quoted as saying by ESPN.com. "It is nice to go back to a place where I have already played and won".
However, Tiger Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg said that Tiger will not be in China for the World Golf Championships.
When asked about the reason for Woods not participating in China, Tiger’s agent said that his client would be participating in more special events in that week.
