Question:

Tin number and restaurant in india?

Hi everyone,

I have been toying with the idea of opening a restaurant. It might just soon become a reality. The question i wanted to ask is, how do i get a TIN? I guess it is the equivalent of PAN. I am not sure what are the fees involved and how long I have to wait for it. Also what is the process of registering and trademarking(???) a business name? Idea is so that nobody else uses this name, lest my business and I become famous ;-)

Thank you

  1. Dear Mr. Anish,

If the PAN is an unique number which traces the person for income tax purpose, the TIN is similar to trace a dealer all over India. In VAT regime the TIN number is compulsory for all types of Business.

To get a TIN number, you have to visit your nearest VAT Office. Apply for the Registration in Form - 1, along with a fee of Rs. 500 plus initial deposit, as demanded by the Officer. You will get the TIN number within half an hour. For more details please visit the Commercial Tax Office located in Gandhinagar, near Sagar Talkies.

Regarding trade name for your Restaurant, an exclusive for you only, can be registered by you. But for this process, you have to take the services of a " Attorney " , and through him only you have to apply for the same. Please contact any of the such Attorneys located in Bangalore. If you patent your Restaurant,s name and logo, then no one can use it any where in India.

    Good luck.
