In West Tenn this year we have a tiny black flying (looks like an ant) that bites and it leaves a welt and stings for awhile and itches . Can anyone tell me what this is? Thanks

  1. really big mosquitos

  2. Well the welt and itching and stinging sounds like a mosquito. I know of a black species that's big for a mosquito and you know when they bite because they're so big it stings. It's called a Ciliata. Here's a liink to a picture I pulled up of one to see if this is what they look like. If it doesn't work, just google ciliata mosquito under images and you'll see them.

  3. It may be what is called a sweat bee.  Take a look.

  4. If it's black and if it's tiny, and if it's wingless and jumps and bites, then it's probably a flea

  5. Called "black flies" or "midges".

Usually found near the best fishing spots :(
