Tiping waiters?

2 questions.Okay 1. for the resturants that have to go's should you tip them and 2. how do you find or what is a reasonable amount to tip any server?

Never done to go but I'd give maybe 5 % because they work hard and need the money most likely.

A reasonable amount if the waiter is good is 15-20%.  I tend to give more about 20%.  If they are excellent I might give a little more, if they are terrible I will give them lower than 15%.

Tipping is usually 15% of your bill. Nowadays, gratuity is added to your bill...so you never know. and no, you shouldn't have to tip in a drive through, only if you're served!

I may give a to go person a buck or two.

A normal amount is 15% for service with no hiccups (or hiccups beyond the waiter's control), and 20% for excellent service. 10% for sub-par service, and NEVER below 8%, as that's the amount that the waiter gets taxed on and is used to figure out how much the server has to pay the busboys and hostess.

If the waiter gets less than 8% it ends up costing them to wait on you.

You should tip on togo food, $2 is a good amount. They might have not cooked the food but they do make your salads, box up your bread (if it comes with it), make your drink if you ordered one, and bag everything up and bring it to you. That takes time and that deserves a tip. You should definitely tip if they bring it out to your car which a good amount of restaurants now provide.

Check your bill before you figure a tip. Many restaurants are now automatically adding a tip to your bill!! When they do this I give nothing further, but most people don't notice and give a tip on top of this.

15 20 % is normal. When paying by credit card there is usually a separate line for you to enter the amount of the tip. I usually cross this out and enter the amount of my food, then leave my tip in cash for the waiter. I leave it up to the waiter to report what I left.

No tip for to go!!

No I dont tip food that I pick up. the waiter didn't serve you the cook did all the work. don't tip.

Seccond tip from 15%-20% people who do an outstanding job or makes me feel like they wanted my experience to be a good one I may tip 25% or more. but just regular I tip 15%.

For "to-go" it usually is 10% unless something went horribly wrong.  Regular tipping is 15 to 20 percent but use your discretion if something was either spectacular or a total flop.  If your in a group of 6 or more most sit down restaurants will automatically add the tip to your bill.

I usually tip around 15-20%, more if the service is exceptional.  I rarely leave a tip less than 15% unless the service is horrible.  For to-go places, I usually don't leave a tip, unless I see that they are dealing my order on top of an already hectic job, in which case I usually add a couple of bucks as a tip.

I work at benihana's and the TOGO people really suffer. Every meal comes with soup, salad, sauces and white rice. The TOGO people need to pack all these. They also bag everything up and get their stuff together by themselves. They should get tipped between 10 and 15%. People need to think the amount of work that people will do for you before just assuming that it all 'magically' got in the plastic bag.

Tip based on service. I will go 10 to 20 percent.  They take your order, get your drinks, check in with you, they earn your money.  

  To go people dont get a tip- putting food in a box , dont think so, let them work their way up to waiter/tress.

Thus...I tip 15% on to-go food and 25% to servers.

Bartenders..sky's the limit.  It definitely pays off!

The general rule is you tip to-go waiters about 10% (rather like the pizza delivery guy- though you might tip him more for coming to your house)

Otherwise it's 10% for poor service, 15% for average service, 20% for spectacular service, and more if you're a generous drunk.

However if you feel the service was truly excellent a note to the manager is always nice.  One night's worth of tip is fleeting, but positive resume comments pay him/her back ten times over.  I've also seen people write their complaint on the receipt, so the waiter/waitress knows what not to do next time.

Tipping has unfortunately become standard procedure- it's not longer a "tip" for good service.  Even the guys who carry your bags to your hotel room are supposed to get a dollar-per-bag tip.  Fortunately tipping one's local radar gun police officer is *not* standard practice...... yet.  I'm not sure yet if I'd write chastising comments on my speeding ticket for poor service.....
