What, if anything, is the appropriate amount to tip bellmen and hotel maids in Bogota, Colombia?

  1. Dont. Unless you want everyone in your hotel to expect it. ONLY tip when you leave and ONLY tip those who gave excellent service.

    And every restaurant will add 10 percent which is usually plenty.


  2. no tip except at extremely posh hotels (more than $200/night) in which case you tip the same as US

  3. Do not tip the hotel staff daily.  You are better off tiping them at the final night of your stay and you give only to those who do merit it the tip that you are going to leave behind.

    Although, in the restaurant, the tip is included in your bill if you feel that the waiter or waitress has attended to you properly and has delivered the food on time as he/she mentioned, then you can an extra amount that you can charge to your hotel bill.

    This rule applies worldwide.

  4. I recommend that you tip them only at the very end of your stay.  This way they will be every happy to receive it and also they (the employees) will want you to have a safe trip so that you can return back to their hotel.
