Question:

Tips for cues without removable tips.?

I just got Minnesota Fats Hustler pool cue and I noticed that the tip was attached (Le Pro tip) and not a s***w-on. Will I eventually need to get a slip on tip, or replace the shaft?

I'm an amateur btw, I've only been playing since late August.

  1. Any serious player will steer clear of a s***w on tip.  Do what Johnny says and go to a pool hall or billiard supply shop to get the tip replaced when needed. It will usually take them 1-3 days depending on when their tech is in.  You can usually tell them what kind of tip you want, for example sof, medium soft, medium, medium hard or hard. Le Pro is a very common tip I use it but I have tried Triangle tips in the past and was pleased with them as well.

If you don't have a Billiard supply shop around ask the local "Best" Player and I'm sure he would know who to go to or he might do them himself. Don't let them s***w you on the price though, if it's a friend he might only charge 5 bucks but usually it would cost 10 - 15, I would never pay more than 20.

    Good Luck and keep shooting

P.S. If you start getting better you should consider a new cue a Minnesota Fats is fine for  a novice but you might want an upgrade, however if it's working for you that's what matters

  2. Tips are easy to replace. but as i novice i would take the cue to the pool hall and have it done, like the guyabove me said Moori are really good tips, they grip really good and give alot of controll of the cue. for someone who just bairly started i would not buy a Moori just yet, when you are just starting you might just smash the tip a little and Moori's are $25 at the cheepest. LePro are not to bad as a novice tip nor is Triangle. but they are not a layerd tip and layerd is better. Talisman are a Pro Layered tip that sale for about $10 then you would have to pay a few bucks for labor to put the tip on.

  3. Yes you're going to have to have it replaced, my advice is to not wait until the last minute to get it done, another thing is, as a novice, experiment a little get it changed very early a few times and try a few different tips, hard, medium soft, see what works for you.  I like the Moori medium personally, I keep it scuffed up routinely so I can wear through them a little fast.  Another thing you can do if you get a new stick somewhere down the line or even with what you have, is to get an extra shaft, you can use a different tip on it for different situations, I've done this in the past.  Good luck with your game.

  4. you will have to get it replaced but no biggie any billiard supply or even some poolrooms can replace it for you I have sticks that have had 50 tips put on them the s***w on ones are just cheap stick from wal mart
