How much do I give my teacher in gift certificate(restaurant or movie theater) for writing my letter of recommendation letter?

That would be a very nice gesture on your part. I agree with the above two answers - enough for a meal perhaps or a movie. Teachers do appreciate those little things -  

Oh, and don't forget that they might have a husband or boyfriend who would enjoy the movie also. Make it for TWO?

Amy is right.  You usually do not pay for references.  But if you decide to do that Amy's suggestion sounds very reasonable.

that would be very nice, you are a very responsible young person. You might want to  Write them a really nice letter, thanking them for taking the time to write your recommendation. Tell them how much you enjoyed being a student in their class and what you liked best about the way they taught. As a teacher myself, I know that would be so much more than a gift certificate. :)

I'd give enough to cover a movie or a meal for themselves.  I don't think that's mandatory though because I don't think he/she expects compensation.
