Why are gas prices going down?

Why are they going down now as opposed to at some other time?

  1. I read an op-ed piece that the hurricane season always effects prices....off-shore drilling shuts down. I don't know about any of that. Perhaps they got cheaper because it is an election year and nobody wants to p-ss off registered voters.

  3. There are three reason. The first was immediate when Bush rescinded the executive order to ban drilling off our coastlines (the Senate ban is still in place, but the oil speculators looked on this favorably). The 2nd is that because of the high gas prices, demand is down and people are driving less. Less demand = lower price. The third is that gas prices always go up at the start of summer and come back down at the end of summer.

  4. Exxon's made enough profit to afford to lower them until after the election.
