I am applying with a police agency, who has a policy of not hiring individuals who smokes. I do not smoke, but it intrigues me the fact their apllicants has to be non-smokers ? Beside Ive never heard of a tobacco test... Is there such a thing ?

  1. I don't believe there is such a thing as a tobacco test.  As far as applying for a police agency that only hires non-smokers (which is the norm since about 1987) you would end up signing an affidavit stating that you do not smoke...on or off duty.  If you do get caught smoking or evidence that you are smoking comes to attention, you would be given a warning...a second warning....then termination.

The reasons behind fire and police agencies hiring non-smokers are insurance cost related, not too mention the job requirements need someone who isn't huffing and puffing after chasing someone on foot for half an hour ;o)
