Toddler chicken pox?

I'm terrified this weird bumpy rash might be chickenpox. My son's almost 2 and is still breastfed also.

  1. I wouldn't be too worried, children who get chicken pox at 2 are not normally very ill.  They would have itchy red bumps normally starting on the stomach and back and then extending out onto arms, legs and head.  Best to get your doctor to check then at least you know he's had it for later.  Keep him away from anyone who's pregnant as chicken pox can be harmful to unborn babies.

  2. bring him to the doctors don't ask anyone on here. that way if it is you can get him the medicane he needs.

  3. is he running a fever, is he itching the bumps?  usually chicken pox will look more like blistery bumps and be all over.  he should have had a chicken pox vaccine so I dont think he would start showing signs of it now but to be on the safe side, take him to the doctor to be sure.

  4. it might be, dont give him the vaccine though, let him get the chickenpox and be done with them! i sugest you go to the doctor and have him checked out, so you know for sure that it is chickenpox. and dont worry, he will be fine. eveyone gets the chickenpox sooner or later! but its better to get them sooner!

  5. It might be. If your son feverish or acting under the weather?

My son caught chicken pox from my husband's shingles at 3 years old. It was tough, but he actually got over it fairly fast. Just keep his nails trimmed and try to keep the itching down. Aveeno bath packets work great; you son might be taking Aveeno soaks every 4 hours, but whatever keeps his spirits up, you do it. LOL Aveeno baths and calamine lotion every 4 hours was the only way we kept him happy, otherwise he'd itch like crazy.

Have you had chicken pox before? If you have, you can still breastfeed him because you'll be immune. If not, you might want to steer clear because it's very contagious, unless you don't mind picking up the pox, but just be warned you'll probably have it worse and longer than he will. And if you're pregnant and never had it; forget it, ship him off to grandma and grandpa until he's better and just pump milk in the meantime because the virus is VERY bad for developing fetuses.

  6. Could be.

But don't be scared if it is.  It's a good thing!  My son got them at age 3, it wasn't bad, and now we're DONE!!  Immune for life!

(I didn't give my kids the chicken pox vaccine, I don't agree with it)

  7. It could be chicken pox. If it is, don't worry, it'll be okay, it's just itchy. I got it when I was two and I was itchy for a few days but after that I was fine--I was around before the vaccine). It could also be Fifth's Disease or just heat rash if it's been really hot and humid lately. Take him to the doctor to get it checked out.

  8. my little girl had chicken pox a few months ago they didn't look like that they were like blisters that looks like heat spots or something you should put calamine lotion if its itching good luck

  9. It doesn't look like the pox to me, my kids had it a year ago. Is he running a fever? How long has he had them? If it's more than two days, he should have a lot more by now. It usually shows up first on the stomach and back, rather than limbs and the face.

It honestly looks like my daughter's reaction to bug bites.

Anyway, chickenpox isn't really something to be terrified of. I have seven kids and when they had it, I had an 11yo, 9yo, 8yo, 7yo, 4yo, 2yo and five month old, and it really wasn't any worse than a cold. Rather than buying aveeno, buy real oatmeal and a cheapo oatmeal grinder. It works so much better. You can also add baking soda to help it stay dry.
